Create Your Special Album With Your Disney Scrapbook Supplies

2 December 2008

When it comes to Disney Scrapbooking albums there are two ways that you can go. You can create your own from scratch or you can purchase an ready made ablum/kit.Any Disney scrapbook supplies can be purchased at a local craft store or online.

My suggestion would be if you are working with a child on this project select a premade album that has the pages and the organizer all included. It will make the project for both you and your child easier and more enjoyable.

If on the other hand you are creating this album on your own then creating your own album could be the way to go especially if you want to theme all the pages yourself.

To begin with you need to decide what kind of scrapbook you want. The most used sizes are 12×12 inch and 8×12 formats. They can be purchased earthier through your local craft shop or online. These formats are a little costly but they are high-quality and can store a huge quantity of collections.

If you are using a inkjet printer then the 8×11 format works the best as they are normally the same size. Even if the pages are in the process of printing your can still use a three ring binder. You may even place the pages similar to the format of a post type binder where you can create a double outline. The pages are attached closely so that they can be used as one outline. You may produce photographs on that format even if they aren’t separately placed on the printer.

Please don’t use a spiral non-removable scrapbook as you will become restricted on one particular page and you may wish to reorganize the pages. The only time this type of album is ok to use is if you are creating a specific compilation as this allows you to categorize the collections from each page.

Disney Scrapbook Layout - Beginner’s Steps to Journaling Part 1

27 November 2008

Adding journaling to your Disney Scrapbook Layouts need not be a daunting experience.

Well when I started to create my first Disney Scrapbook I thought that it seemed like a dreadful chore as I never knew what to write.

I learnt later on though that journaling in your scrapbook  is as important in the layout as the color scheme and design element.

Here are simple tips on how to start your journaling

  1. Always select acid-free, permanent, scrapbook pens in colors that synchronize with your Disney Scrapbook page.
  2. Start with the title on the page. Know remember the title does not need to go across the top of the page, it can go across the bottom, vertically along one side of the scrapbook paper or through the centre of the page. Keep the title simple, it could just include the date and the name of the event.
  3. Start off with the things that are evident such as the date of the occasion and names of the people who are in the picture.
  4. Next, add a few basic pieces of information, describe where the events in the photos took place, or why the people in the pictures were there.
  5. If there is extra room on the page you can add some personal views, emotions, verse, or quotes.

Tips:

  1. The best thing that you can add to your Disney Scrapbook album would be personalizing it with your own handwriting, it adds an element of history to your album. But if you feel that you wont be able to read it in years to come then type it out on the computer.
  2. To add a bit of pizzazz and fun to the album add fun things to the page such as stickers or memorabilia from the occasion
  3. Finally, remember that your family’s story is the most vital part of preserving the past and the present for the future, don’t overlook it with a small number of words.

How to Start a Scrapbook

28 October 2008

Many people enjoy the craft of scrapbooking because it’s a great way to appreciate the moments enjoyed with friends and family.  Begin with a simple project and choose a theme: a certain vacation, a single holiday, a child’s school career, a wedding.  There are many great scrapbooking ideas out there for you to try.

Don’t use all the photos you have, just hand-pick the best ones that you want to look at time and time again. Any left-over photos can of course be put to one side and used for another day.

Don’t hurry the project and take as much time you require. The story in your scrpbook doesn’t have to be in chronological order, limit your color theme, set out to design each page differently, or set any unnecessary goals.

What You Will Need

Start scrapbooking with the bare necessities or with all the bells and whistles according to your personal style. First, you need an album, so pick one that will go with the idea that you have or let the store supply inspire you. Whilst you are buying your album you might as well buy some re-fill pages that fit your album. You don’t want to run out in the middle of your scrapbooking project and discover that these exact pages are difficult to find. Get a good pair of scissors just for scrapbooking, and make sure they are comfortable in your hand and sharp, then keep them with your supplies.

You’ll need adhesive. Find one in the scrapbooking aisle of the craft store. Make sure it’s acid-free and is good for both photos and cardstock, because you will want to choose cardstock and paper to accent your photos. Choose holiday colors for holiday scrapbooking and baby pastels for baby scrapbooking. And lastly, you will need a craft store that specializes in scrapbooking so you can find specialized papers that are available by the sheet.  There are just some of the scrapbooking for beginners tips.

Getting the Most from Your Desk for Scrapbooking

23 October 2008

Having a separate desk for scrapbooking is an excellent idea and a good investment when you really love this hobby and indulge in it often.Since scrapbooking involves many tiny elements and because you need to keep your paper free from tears and damage, be sure to have a separate area for your supplies.  To really make the most of your desk for scrapbooking there are some things you should consider.

For one thing you should always keep everything on your desk for scrapbooking neat and organized.  It’s easy to let the small page elements and scrapbooking supplies get mixed up with one another but this can cause frustration when you’re ready to actually make up some new page layouts.  There are many containers and organizers you can buy that are specially made for scrapbooking organization, but remember that you can use just about anything to keep your items separate and organized.  Egg cartons, paper cups, and even the plastic lids to things like hairspray can all keep those tiny embellishments organized (wash them out first of course!).

You should also consider keeping a trash bin near your desk for scrapbooking so that you can easily get rid of scrap paper, tape, and other discarded items so they don’t get mixed in with necessary supplies.  A separate cup or drawer for basic scrapbooking tools like scissors and paper cutters can keep things organized and neat as well; nothing is more frustrating than hunting around for the scissors or die cutter when your desk is covered in cardstock and other page elements.

Scrapbook paper storage is very inexpensive and can really help keep your desk for scrapbooking organized as well.  These paper sorters are like stacked slots for different colored paper and will keep them from being bent or marked up. They also allow you to sort your paper by color and by pattern or theme.

Remember that you don’t have to keep everything on top of your desk for scrapbooking.  Put a corkboard up on the wall in front of the desk; you can pin binder clips to it and use the clips to hold papers so that you don’t need to use a pushpin with them.Pin envelopes to the corkboard and then use these to keep tiny embellishments and stickers organized and neat. Clear plastic Ziploc bags work well and allow you to see exactly what’s inside. The space under your desk for scrapbooking is another place to use for storage; a small rolling cart with drawers is inexpensive and is easily accessible under your scrapbooking desk.

Creating page layouts is easier and quicker when you have a scrapbooking desk that is neat and organized. You won’t waste your time cleaning a space to work on your scrapbooking project, and it allows you to get started right away.  The time to maintain your scrapbooking organization will be well worth it when you are able to get more pages done.

Creative Ideas for Baby Shower Scrapbooking Layouts

20 October 2008

A baby shower is one of the most important events in a mother's life, and of course she will want to find orginal baby shower scrapbooking layouts to capture her memories.  All those cute presents and all the friends and relative that gather should be remembered and some baby shower scrapbooking layouts can be just the thing for that!

Many different paper collections and templates are available for scrapbooking a baby shower. You can find scrapbooking pages that are already set with frames for photos, baby sayings and everything you need to make a baby scrapbook layout.  If you’re new to scrapbooking or aren’t creatively gifted then these baby shower scrapbooking layouts can be the right thing for you.  All that’s needed are those pictures!  But some people aren’t interested in having their pages already designed for them but still are a bit overwhelmed with what to do when it comes to making up their own baby shower scrapbooking layouts.

Many people use the traditional baby colors of pink and blue for their layouts, but you can really use any colors you like.Chocolate brown, rust red, and warm yellow- the colors of autumn, work well on baby shower scrapbooking pages.  One reason for this is that these colors are somewhat neutral and a bit easier on the eyes than strong blues, but aren’t as washed out as pink can sometime seem.  You might also try these same colors but in primary shades, meaning red, blue and yellow.Baby toys are often in primary colors making these a good choice for baby shower scrapbooking pages.

Get creative with the wording and the fonts you use.  Many opt for "childish" fonts that resemble the writing of a child but there's no need to do this if you prefer something more elegant or something simpler.  You can put the child’s name or a simple phrase such as “Baby Boy” or “Baby Girl” across the top of any baby shower scrapbooking layouts and some simple wording underneath in a smaller font for a nice touch.  And remember that you don't need to work the word "baby" into your layouts - try words like Love, Welcome, Family, and Cherished.

Be the envy of your friends at your next scrapbooking crop.  Get more scrapbooking ideas and information on making scrapbooking borders.

Don’t Forget These Points When Hosting a Scrapbooking Crop

19 October 2008

Are you planning on hosting a scrapbooking crop?  If so, you’re in for a world of fun!  Scrapbooking is a fun and creative hobby enjoyed by millions worldwide, and a crop is a great way to get experienced and novice scrappers together to share scrapbooking tips, get new pointers, and to create some great new pages and books. But as much as it is, when hosting a scrapbooking crop, there are a few important things to consider.

For one thing, no matter how devoted a scrapper is he or she will probably need something else to do other than just concentrate on scrapbooks all day or all weekend. When you host a scrapbooking crop, be sure to also provide other activities for the scrapbookers,or invite instructors or independent scrapbooking consultants to show new products or techniques. This means your friends won’t be exhausted from trying to create new page layouts for hours on end, and they can get a rest from the activity.

If you’re hosting a scrapbooking crop and want to provide an instructor make sure he or she is very experienced with both scrapbooking and in presenting as well. Some people are very talented scrapbookers, but they may not be good at telling others how to do it!  It’s awful for someone to be hit with stage fright when they’re just trying to share tips on such a great hobby, and of course everyone will then turn to the person that is hosting the scrapbooking crop to get things rolling again.

Showing the latest new products is also a fun activity during a scrapbooking crop, but make sure it isn’t just a sales presentation.  Those who attend will expect to be able to create pages and maybe even an entire book while they’re there and they will need time and space to do just that.  And make sure everyone can get something to eat and drink as well!  If you’re hosting a scrapbooking crop that is just one day you can usually provide a boxed or catered lunch; if this is a weekend affair you’ll need to talk to the hotel or someone else about catering different meals or let your attendees know what restaurants are in the area.  If you keep these points in mind when hosting a scrapbooking crop you’re sure to have a great time that is fun and enjoyable for everyone in attendance.

Back to School Scrapbooking Ideas: 6 Tips to Capture School Memories

18 October 2008

There’s so much more to remembering going back to school then just scrapbooking a picture of the first day of school.  Why not create a few page layouts that document the feelings and memories of the back-to-school season?  Get your camera and your scrapbooking supplies ready, and try these school scrapbooking ideas.

Shopping for New School Clothes

This is a ritual of the new school year.Shopping for back to school clothes is a traditional at the beginning of the school season.Try taking your camera along, and you’ll capture the current kids’ fashion trends along with some fun memories of your children shopping.  Be sure to include the good, the bad and the ugly of this year’s fashions.   Even if you have a less than enthusiastic shopper, it’s a back-to-school tradition that should be part of any school scrapbook.

Registering for School

Standing in line to get your child’s class schedule and new textbooks is another common back to school event. If your child is young or this is a new school for him, take some pictures of his first impressions of the new school year.  Older children may not welcome photos during school registration, but you can still scrapbook their class assignment schedule after they no longer need it, or a picture of the stack of textbooks may make a nice addition to a school page layout. Registration is also a great time to snap a photo of the school building for a school scrapbooking album

Hopes for the Coming School Year

Have your children write down what they hope to learn in the coming school year. Ask them how they see themselves at the end of the year, and what they are most looking forward to at this grade level.  Maybe they are looking forward to learning how to read or long division or maybe just making new friends. You can include these thoughts in a scrapbooking page.  It’s even more personal if you use each child’s own handwriting.

First Day of School

So much is going on during the morning of the first day of school.  When you take a photograph of your children in their new clothes with new backpacks, pick the same place each year to take the photo.  You will get a better perspective of how they have changed in height if you pick the same location with the same background.

The School Bus

If your kids take a school bus, a nice moment to document is leaving on the bus on the first day of class. Take one photo of your children entering the bus, and then try to take one of them waving from the windows.

Reuniting with School Friends

Reuniting with old school buddies is part of the fun of the back to school season.Take pictures of these moments in front of the school or at the school bus stop.  Remember to be sensitive to older children who many not want photos taken during this time.

The back-to-school season is full of traditions and rituals.  You’ll definitely want to document them in a school scrapbook album.  Whether you choose to create one scrapbook that includes all of your children or an album for each child, these tips will give you lots of ideas to fill up those pages.
